Episode #37: We Still Are

Emily Hund shares an audio “mini ethnography” of Penn State culture and reflects on her process. This is the result of a semester project for Annenberg’s media ethnography course, taught by John Jackson in Fall 2013.

I sent this to my mom, who’s a PSU alumna. She said the bells made it seem like her time there was just yesterday. I think that’s a great commentary on what audio ethnography can communicate beyond an expository authorial mode – the “emplacement” of audio as an effect for the folks connected to the space.

Just listened to you podcast. I attended college at SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island long ago. I did not have the same sense of identity to my alma mater as you (and so many Penn State grads). Listening to your description made me long for such a rich experience. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about the good, the bad,and the ugly. Well done!
